Lack Of Action By Merchants On Wire Question?
That lack of action by merchants and interested bodies might be one of the reasons for the present wire and piping shortage in the Bay of Plenty, was advanced by the chairman, Mr R. Dunning, at the Bay of Plenty sub-Provincial Executive meeting of Federated Farmers (Auckland Province) on Tuesday. He considered that the shortage in the Bay of Plenty was worse than in other districts because other centres had kept making representations until they had got extra supplies. The Bay of Plenty was in a rather difficult position as it had no common centre, Mr Dunning continued. There were four relatively small townships which, he suggested, were not always prepared to act together. This might have had some bearing on the ’ problem and be part of the fault. One delegate said that he had been told at Tauranga that the Bay of Plenty was not getting its proper quota. Mr G. E. King, Rangitaiki, said that the present allocation might have been adequate before the war but because of - increased development in the Bay of Plenty it had now' become totally inadequate. Mr Dunning: Perhaps there has not been enough concerted action by local merchants in making representations for improved supplies. It was decided to make inquiries when a certain grade of reinforced number ten fencing wire would, again become available.
