Dosing" Dogs To Remove Tapeworms

Dog owners in New Zealand are supplied with worm tablets for the removal of tapeworms from their dogs. The most important tapewo-m is the small one which is the cauije of hydatids in farm stock and in man. The drug acts by causing temporary paralysis of the worm, causing it to relax its hold, at the same time sweeping it out of the bowel by purgative action. The Department of Agriculture emphasises that after being dosed the dog should pass a really fluid motion, in which will be voided most of the minute tapeworms. If the dog's bowels fail to move within two hours, the dose should be repeated either the same' day or a day or two later. Unless this is done the temporary paralysis of the worms passes off and they are able to reattach themselves to the gut wall.
