FLEMING—CLIBBORN
On September 30, at St. John's Catholic Church, Edgecumbe, the wedding was solemnised of Elaine May, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. H. Clibborn,' Christchurch,. and Neil Gillies Fleming, of Auckland. The Rev. Father Curley officiated. •
The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr W. Brown, of Christchurch, wore 3 dove grey ensemble with hat to match. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations and cyclamen and was attended by Miss Leila Jamieson as bridesmaid. Her frock was in tones of grey and flanie, the skirt being accordion pleated, and hat to match. Her bouquet was of flame coloured flowers. The best man was Mr Patrick Fleming, brother of the groom. The reception was held at the Edgecumbe Private Hotel and the guests were received by Mrs Brown, sister of the bride, who wore a brown suit and blue cloche hat, fox fur and accessories to match, also Mrs Morgan, aunt of the bridegroom, in a grey costume and black hat and accessories. Mrs Colin Clark, in a teal blue coat and hat to match, also helped. The duties of M.C. were out by Mr Withy.
Mrs Clark also acted as hostess to the guests when they viewed the presents at her home. Her daughter, Patricia, presented the - bride with a horse shoe decorated with orange blossom and pink ribbon. The bride left on her honeymoon wearing a teal green coat, off-white hat, and grey accessories.
LAW—ADAMS A wedding of wide interest in the Whakatane district took place recently in the Edgecumbe Presbyterian Church, when Elfreda Kathleen, only daughter of Mr and M-rs A H. Adams, of Thornton, was married to James Malcolm, eldest son of Mr and. Mrs Wilfred Law also of Thornton. The Rev. J. H. Starnes officiated while Mrs Neilsen presided at the organ. The church was well filled with friends of both contracting parties. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful . gown of white silk: velvet, styled with sweetheart neckline and tightfitting bodice. A pleated yoke joined a full length front panel, and a large bustle-bow over a slightly « trained skirt was caught at each .
side with a spray of lily *of the valley and roses. Her embroidered •tulle veil was held in place with a tatted halo and she carried a sheaf of white roses, stock and tuberroses. »
Assisting her were Mrs J: McDonald, Whakatane, as matron of honour, and Miss Joyce Law, sister of the bridegroom, as brides-, maid, and little Patricia Lopes as flower girl. All wore becoming frocks, of cherry-red silk velvet - cut on similar lines to that worn by the bride. They, carried dainty muffs of shirred velvet with sprays of cherries falling from the sides. Their shoulder-length veils were of matching tu.lle caught to the head with a half-ringlet of red berries and gold leaves. Supporting the groom were Messrs Russell Law as best man and Athol Martin as groomsman. The Thornton hall where the breakfast was held was filled to capacity. Mrs Adams greeted her guests wearing a smart brown woollen frock with toning accessories and carried a posy of auutmn tints. Mrs Law Snr. wore a black woollen suit with hat and accessories to tone and shoulder spray of vieux rose tints.
The toastmaster was Mr C. King-sley-Smith, who announced the novel departure of singing appropriate songs for the honouring of each toast as' announced as under :
The Bride and Groom; Mr Ross Craddock, The Bridegroom; The Bridesmaids, The Bridegroom arid the Best man; The Bride's Parent?, Mr C. T. Smith and Mr A. H. Adams; \ The Bridegroom's Parents, Mr Gordon Mexted and Mr Wilfred Law; Absent Friends, Mr Malcolm Law; The Officiating Minister, Mr lan Gow and Rev.-Starnes. Mr and Mrs Law departed later - on a tour of the South Island, the bride wearing a pink woollen frock with wine coat, hat and accessories. Their home will be in Thornton.
