Cricket Cancelled A cricket match which was to have been played between United and Galatea at Whakatane next Saturday has been cancelled.

Granted
A request by the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce for electricity for shop lighting on late nights has been granted by the Whakatane Borough Council.
Consumption Growing Electricity consumption had increased 14 per cent in the last month, it was reported to the Whakatane Borough Council on Monday. The increase was attributed to new installations.
On November 5 An organisation known as Luke's Whakatane Fireworks has been given permission by the Whakatane Borough Council to hold a display at Eivers Beach on November 5 subject to the supervision'-of the Borough foreman. Present at Meeting The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, and Crs R. T. Morpeth, K. A. Needham, A. D. O'Rourke, C. M. Lennie, R. S. Buttimore, H. G. Warren and E. R. Dillicar were present at Monday night's meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council.
Seven New Houses Permits for the erection of seven new residences were issued in Whakatane last month. Additions to residences were approved in seven cases and permits were issued for one new businss building and additions to three others. The value of permits issued was £35,416.
Sufficient The preliminary plans sent in for a Community Centre were sufficient .for the Department's needs until more detailed ones were received by the end of. the year,stated the Department of Internal Affairs in a letter received at Monday's meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. King Street Corners The Whakatane Borough Council will again draw to the attention of the Main Highways Board the need for improvements to the corners at the ends of King Street. This was decided when, at its meeting on Monday night, the Council received a letter from the Chamber of'Commerce on the subject.
Fertiliser Works Wanted Although Federated Farmers will not enter into any controversy over the site of the proposed deep sei port for the district, Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers will support the establishment of a fertiliser works near the port. This was .stated at a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Province held at Whak?.tane.
Tribute Paid Speaking at the opening of the new rural automatic exchange at Murupara on Saturday, the District Engineer, Mr T. E. Thompson, paid a tribute to the Whakatane line gang under Mr W. Quigg. This gang built a very sound line through difficult country between Te Teko and Waiohau. It was later extended to Murupara.
Weekend Cricket P. and T. beat Rowing Club by 105 runs (H. Munro 34 retired, R. Celand 12 retired, W. D. Rivett 17 retired, J. Coutts 11) to 92 ( S. E. Shapley 51, M. Brown 13) in a friendly cricket match at the weekend. Bowling for P. and T., Cleland took two for 12, Rivett two for 14 and R. Jones two for 10. For Rowing Club, Shapley took two for 38, Bowering one for six, one for six, and Henry one for none. Only Three Names Each branch of the Bay of Plenty. Federated Farmers is to be asked to forward two names for possible inclusion in a New Zealand "Who's Who." Up to the present only three names have been received, according to the secretary, at a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers at Whakatane. The Waimana delegate did not think they had anyone of importance for inclusion and had not submitted anv names.
