MURUPARA PAPER MILL PROJECT IS APPROVED

The proposed Murupara pulp and paper mill project had been approved in principle and was receiving close attention, said the Member for Bay of Plenty, Mr Sulivan, at the opening of the Murupara automatic telehone exchange on Saturday.

Much had been said and written about the project, the estimated cost of which was twelve and a half million pounds. In addition, a firstclass railway would have to be built to a port. With such heavy capital expenditure involved, it was proposed to link up with overseas firms. Outside a few trading departments, he still had to find an organisation which could be successfully run by a Go- - ernment.

The Government was determined that the Murupara scheme would begin at the earliest possible date.
