Bowling Club Opening The opening of the Whakatane Bowling Club’s season will take place on Saturday, October 14.
Friendly Cricket The P. and T. Cricket Club will play a friendly game against the Whakatane Rowing Club at the Domain at 12.30 on Sunday.

on Wednesday the championships and handicap tournaments were postponed and will commence at 7.30 next week. Prize-Winners The booby prizes at the Druids’ cards' went to Mrs Kane and Mr G. Hanright on Tuesday evening. The winners were Mrs M. Barrowman and Mr L. Needham. The competi-
tion was won by J. Coutts. Awakeri Indoor Bowls The final of the Awakeri Indoor Bowling Club single championship \yas played on Wednesday, Smith being, the winner, with B. Bradley as runner-up. This entitles Smith to compete as Awakeri representative at the tournament to be held in Whakatane. Indoor Bowls Tomorrow Twelve teams will be competing in the St. John Indoor Bowling tournament to be held in the St. John Hall tomorrow night. All
teams will be playing on a two-life system, and as the number of teams from each club has been restricted very high standard of play is expected. Matata Dance Sponsored by the committee of the Indoor Sports Club, a well-at-tended dance was held at Matata on September 30. Music was played by\ the Peter Pan Orchestra. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr D.
Gardner and partner, and a Spot Waltz by Mr D. Gill and Miss Pat Burt. Unsuccessful The Whakatane Druids Lodge challenge for the St. John Indoor Bowling Shield played against the Board Mill Social Club on Tuesday was unsuccessful. The Board Mill team retained the Shield with a score o'f 7/6, 3/10, 10/4. Playing for the Board Mill were S. Butcher, K. Hannah, W. Smith and W. Howat and the Druids team was, Mrs Henderson, R. Schou, Mrs L. Bell and Miss P. Rivett. The next challenge will be from the Taneatua Oddfellows.
