Elaborate sketch plans for Whakatane’s War Memorial Community Centre have been finished and were passed by the planning committee last night. They, have yet to be passed by a meeting of the general committee and by the Borough Council and they must be in Wellington by the end of the month if the memorial is to qualify for subsidy. Two large rooms are allowed for, one with adequate staging. There will be supper rooms, a committee room, dressing rooms and minor amenities and the building is designed in such a way that it can be added to at any time.
