THE HARBOUR QUESTION
Sir, —Your plea for an open enquiry, re the deep water port, is an encouraging bid for fair play. A million of money to be spent emphasises the time worn saying “where the carcase is, there the wolves are gathered together.” The gambling in the stock and sharp' market, compared with the other betting (which is done with pricate money) is a mountain to a molehill. If financial giants chose to fight one another with their own money, that is their concern. But when the Government and local bodies have to take the risk it concerns every taxpayer and all cards should be put on the table and the poker faces of financiers ignored. Easy money, be it in large or small amounts is the devil’s best heeler to hounds sold to hell. Men everywhere are saying the monetary system must be altered, but the same old game goes on, the' public pays for a service as secret and as old as the Sphinx, where motto is reputed to be “where ignorance is bliss were folly to be wise.” Scientists, sociologists and financiers are ever learning and will come to the knowledge of the truth, ithat a world divided against itself, must give place to unity, the strength of which will be a love that will know all and forgive all, which is the only solution for financial and international peace. Yours etc., H. SERGANT.
