Meeting Of Thornton Women’s Institute

Mrs Branch presided over a good attendance of the September meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute.

Mrs Sheat, delegate to Christ, church, gave a full and interesting account of the conference. It was decided that a Christmas parcel containing soap and handkerchiefs be sent to our Scottish link.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 10, instead of the following Thursday. Mrs Branch won the prize in aid of general funds. Competition results:— Best bloom, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Robb 2; best vegetable, Mrs Tooke l; Mrs Sheat 2; rock cakes, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs D. Branch 2; decorated boot, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Tooke 2: felt article, Mrs D. Branch 1. Mrs Robb 2.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Learning, Morgan, Magee and Cowie.
