BOARD DISCUSSES MATERNITY BLOCK ADDITIONS
Proposed additions to the maternity annexe were discussed by the Whakatane Hospital Board when it received tent tive plans from t the architect, Mr T. F. Haughey, yesterday.
The proposed additions would prbvide six extra beds, plus increased and up-to-date facilities, said the Medical Superintendent, Dr E. T. Dawson. Everything taken into consideration, this would be a great thing for maternity services in the
district. A post-war increase i,n * births had settled down but there would be steady increase as settlement grew. Present facilities were not up-to-date. If Murupara and Galatea grew, so would the influx to the annexe unless or until Murupara had facilities.
Members agreed that the rapid expansion of the district warranted the expenditure involved. It was decided to forward the
sketch plans to the Department of
f Health for approval, r Provision is made in the plan for any necessary future additions.
