Full-Scale Concert Will Be Held To Open Celebrations

A full-scale special Maori concert, to be held in the Winter Show Building, is planned for the opening of the sextennial celebrations in Whakatane on Friday, September 22. Pakehas will have the opportunity to see some of the best poi and haka performers of the North Island. It is proposed to hold a street parade before the concert. Arrangements for the celebrations are now progressing quickly; It is likely that every settlement of consequence .in the North Island will be represented among the thousands of Maoris who will be assembled.

The accommodation problem is being met with the erection of billets and tents from materials lent by the Army Department. Big excavations are being made for the hangis.
