Changes In Period Of Trout Fishing Season Announced

Changes in the period of the trout-fishing season in the Taupo and Rotorua districts were announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Bodkin. He. said meetings with various anglers’ associations had enabled a common approach to be made to problems of conservation. For some years the season in both districts had commenced on November 1 and closed on May 14, the Minister stated. The main alterations now proposed were:— Taupo District.— The season for all rivers and streams entering Lake Taupo and their tributaries will extend from December 1 to May 31. In all other waters of the district, except Lake Roto Aira and the tributaries of the Poutu Stream between the lake and the falls which is closed to Europeans, the season will run from November 1 to April 30.

Rotorua District.— The season for all rivers and streams flowing into lakes and their tributaries, except for the Ohau Channel,, will open on December 1 and close on May 14. In all other parts of the district the fishing will as usual be from November 1 to May 14.
