Motor Cycle Club’s Notes On Trials

The Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club held a combined Time and Mud Trial during the weekend for the Alan Morpeth Cup. Fifteen competitors took part in this event which was eventually won by the improving rider, J. Flavell on his K.S.S. Velocette. The first part- of the trial consisted of a time trial of 35 miles from Whakatane to Stanley Track back to Ohope ' and finishing about 2 miles out on the main Taneatua Road. This section had to be covered in 1 hour 45 minutes, giving an average speed of 20 miles per hour. All competitors lost points on this section with the exception of C. Goodwin who checked in exactly 1 hour 45 minutes from his time of departure. As all competitors were not allowed watches and speedometers were sealed it was a fine performance by this rider. After lunch, eight sections in the form of severe mud hazards were attempted. All competitors lost points heavily oh most sections, but it says a lot for their machines that not one failed
