OPOURIAO DAIRY COMPANY HAD A SUCCESSFUL YEAR
Once again the season was a favourable one, particularly in the spring when production increased considerably; and despite the prolonged dry weather which did retard production the mild autumn did much to make the final result show an increase over the previous, season's supply, stated the chairman, Mr A. K. Prince, in his report presented at the annual meeting of the Opouriao jDairy Company. Including the wney butterfat purchased, the total handled by the company was 988,8181 b., which was manufactured into 1094 tons of cheese and 39 tons of whey butter. In respect of,the 1948/49 season, the report indicated a season average payout of 29.49 d per pound for cheesemaking and 27.74 d per pound for cream supplied, and these were the actual final payments. The average advance payments made during the current season have been 25.989 d per pound for cheesemaking with a further .041 d per lb payment for veterinary ser-
vices and outside cartage and 23.999 d pence per pound for cream supplied. The surplus from the Cheese Appropriation Account which should result from the disposal of unsold cheese, after making full provision for all charges thereon, will provide an additional payment of 4.436 d per pound over the Whole season for suppliers of milk and 3.500 d per pound to suppliers of cream, making the season average payout 30.466 d per pound to suppliers of milk and 27.499 d per pound to suppliers of cream. Provision has been more for all charges up to f.o.b. The directors wish to place on record their appreciation to the factory managers for their splendid efforts during the season; to all members of the staff for their loyal services; and to the suppliers for maintaining a high standard of their milk.
Yet another milestone in the history of the company was passed this year when it celebrated its Jubilee by holding a sports meeting at the Opouriao Factory with addresses by visitors, followed in the evening by a social gathering and presentation to our secretary, Mr Moody, who retired after 50 years of faithful service to the company—surely a unique and memorable achievement, the report remarks.
