TWO BAY FIXTURES TOMORROW Rugby will be the main sporting fixtures at Whakatane and in the Bay of Plenty tomorrow. At Tauranga the Bay senior and junior teams will play their annual games with Waikato. This will be one of the last Bay fixtures for the year.
At Whakatane new junior and senior competition games are to be started. Senior teams will contest the Bracken Cup while the juniors will play for the Wilson Cup. There is to be a third grade trial at noon.
WHAKATANE TEAMS TO KEEP TRAINING The next challenge for the Te, Hurinui Apanui Shield is to be made by Tauranga against Whakatane at Whakatane on September 2. Following their fine display at Rotorua last week the senior Rugby team is expected to have a hard tussle against Tauranga and for this reason all players likely to be selected are urged to keep in strict training. On the same day the juniors will, defend the Shalfoon Shield also from Tauranga.
A full practice for all senior and junior players is to be held on the Whakatane Rugby Field on Sunday at 2 p.m. It is essential that all players be present to take part in the team training and coaching.
UNITED SENIOR TEAM Players to meet Poroporo at the Domain on Saturday:— Goodwin, Hunt, Taylor, French, Howat, Yates, Malaquin, Callaghan, Laidlaw, Parkinson, Haddon, Ruffles, Green, Gardiner, Butler (2), Woods (2).
United juniors to play Taneatua at Whakatane:. Comiskey, Carling, Henderson, Seebeck, Goodwin, Hewitt, Taylor (2), Shapley, Butler (2), Needham, McKenzie, Goodall, Haeusler.
