Ports Too Shallow
“Our information is that the first call is often made at Auckland to lighten the load because vessels are unable to get alongside at South Island ports when fully loaded.” This was the reply given an important firm by the New Zealand Merchants and Shippers’ Association in London, when inquiries were made recently about direct shipments of goods to South Island ports. The reply was contained in a letter received by a Chamber of Commerce.
