New Member For Otakiri Institute

A new member, Mrs Wakefield, was welcomed at the monthly meeting of the Otakiri Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs Carr. The attendance was good. The roll call “Suggestions to improve our Institute” reviewed many helpful suggestions. Mrs Carr, who recently attended the General Conference in Christchurch, gave a summary of her travelling experiences.

Mrs Carr handed over proceedings to Mrs D. G., Campbell, who acted as president for members’ day. She was assisted by Mrs Cristall as secretary; opening their programme, with a New Year Resolution Quiz two recitations, given by Mrs Ryburn and two songs (burlesque) by members. The>competitions were judged by two visitors attending the meeting, Mrs A. Foote and Mrs J. E. Gardiner.

Competition winners were:— Vegetable, Mrs W. Murray 1, Mrs Winters 2, Mrs Peck 3; single flower, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs Carr 2, Mrs Butler 3; double flower, Mrs Murray 1, Mrs G. Whalley 2, Miss J. Murray 3; coat posies, Mrs Wakefield 1, Mrs Peck 2, Miss J. Murray 2; collection of jams, Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Peck 2, Mrs Winters 3; bowl of spring bulbs, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs Butler 2.
