More Use Now Of Patent Leather Shoes

“There is a tendency for patent leather footwear to be used more widely in New Zealand, according to inquiries received by a large manufacturing house in Wellington,” says the latest issue of the Retailer, the official journal of the New Zealand Retainers’ Federation. “Some 15 years ago patent leather footwear was generally the vogue in the Dominion,” says the journal, “but the pendulum of fashion swung against it, and wartime shortages, too, had their influences. Australia is now New Zealand’s principal supplier of patent leather. There are few countries able to manufacture it, as it requires special sun treatment to provide the necessary softening action. Countries where the sun’s rays are peculiarly suited for this natural processing are Germany, North and South America, and Australia.”
