Are You LeftHanded? Well Don't Worry If You Are
Sinistrality is much less alarming than is sounds; it merely means left-handedness. News Review explains that although most of us favour the right hand there is nothing wrong in being left-handed. Left-handed children if left alone develop as normally as any others. Apes are ambidextrous, or equally clumsy with their hand, but few of man's operations require equal dexterity with both so he favours one side or the other. Violin playing is the only accomplishment which uses the less handy hand to perform more difficult work. One theory to explain righthandedness is that primitive man got that way because he uses his left hand to clutch the shield defending his left-sided heart while dispatching the enemy with his right. The left side of the brain operates the right side of the body and vice versa. Because the speech centre is normally on the left side of the brain and because left-handed people often stutter some experts suggest it may be that in their case the speech centre is on the right side of their brain.
