Wins Were registered by Whakatane, Tauranga, Rotorua and Te i uke in the first elimination games for the Te Hurinui Apanui Shield on Saturday. "Whakatane beat Apanui 24-3. Rotorua scraped home against Galatea 9-8, Rangitaiki lost to Tauranga 8-3, while at Te Puke Opotiki lost /to the home side. The Rotorua match was closely contested and a number of puzzling decisions by the referee annoyed many of the Galatea supporters. At Matata Tauranga proved too strong for Rangitaiki.
