Varying Successes For School Teams
Whakatane High School Rugby and basketball teams had varying successes against Opotiki District High School in matches played both at Whakatane and Opotiki yesterday. In the main Rugby fixture played at Opotiki the Whakatane Ist XV was defeated by Opotiki 18-3, but in the lightweight game played at Whakatane for the Pyne Trophy Whakatane had a convincing victory over Opotiki by winning 38-0. In the basketball games played at Opotiki there were two draws. In the A game Whakatane 21 Opotiki 21, and the B game Whakatane 11 Opotiki 11. The games played at Whakatane resulted in two wins for the home teams. The C grade, Whakatane 8 Opotiki 1 and the D, Whakatane 9 Opotiki 9.
