Rugby And Hockey Are Main Week-end Sporting Fixtures
There will be plenty of sporting attractions in the Whakatnne and Rangitaiki districts over the weekend. Representative hockey and Rugby will be some of the main features with other sports taking place tomorrow and Sundi y. The main Rugby fixture tomorrow will be the competition games played at Whakatane and Taneatua and in most Rangitaiki centres: At Waimana two games will be played on the Domain when the home teams will meet two Opotiki teams. Rugby will also be played on Sunday. At Whakatane at 10 a.m. there will be a compulsory practice game between the Hurinui Apanui and Moore Shield teams while at Matata Rangitaiki will meet Opotiki in a trial game at 1.30 p.m. - Basketball will be played on the Domain Courts tomorrow afternoon and the Whakatane Archery Club will close its season on the adjoining field. Otakiri will hold the weekly club day on Sunday. At Edgecumbe Central Bay of Plenty teams will play representative hockey matches against Piako. On Sunday all hockey competition games will be continued as usual.
Tomorrow is an important day for the Bay of Plenty Rugby League, who will play Rotorua at Ruatoki for the Waitangi Shield. Golf competitions will be decided by both the Whakatane and Te Teko Clubs tomorrow and Sunday.
