Bay Of Plenty Women Have Fine Textured Skin Says Visitor

Although Bay of Plenty women have a finely textured skin like other women throughout New Zealand it is dry and needs attention because it is so sensitive and prone to be affected by the salt air. This is the opinion of Miss Beatrice O’Malley, beauty specialist from a leading London cosmetic house, who is at present visiting Whakatane. If the skin is not treated it will become old and wrinkled much earlier than it should.

Winter weather, frosts, winds and sea air could play havoc with the skin but with the right application of creams the skin could be protected irom the elements, Miss O’Malley said. During her stay here Miss O’Malley said she would be pleased to advise any woman on ’be correct treatment of skin, what creams to use and how to use makeup to advantage on individual complexions. The art of applying make-up pro - perly was not widely known by women, in fact it was sadly neglected, Miss O’Malley continued. She advised women to nourish and feed their skin with the correct creams and to try and acquire subtlety when using make-up. The main object should be to harmonise colour. This could only oe done by using make-up that was suitable to individual complexions. Discussing present fashions in New Zealand Miss O’Maley, who is an Australian by birth and has travelled extensively, said -that this country was behind most other fashion centres in the world. Anything new was slow to reach the Dominion. She said there was a drapness and sameness about their dress but this was probably due to the fact that most clothing was made in New Zealand and because of import controls.

Miss O’Malley was in the Bay of Plenty last year but since then has visited Australia. She noticed a big change in her home city, Sidney. In fashions for women :-t was the equal of London and Paris, she thought. Miss O’Malley will be at a Whakatane chemist until Wednesday when she leaves for a cosmetic exhibition at Auckland.
