Flooding Solution Suggested
As a possible solution to the flooding of the Wairere Stream the Whakatane Borough Council has suggested to the Department of Maori Affairs that the Department’s property on Hillcrest be planted with trees to hinder flow of water. The stream passes through the property and the Council has suggested that the flooding problem would be assisted if land to about three chains on either side of the waterway be planted in trees. A similar suggestion was made for the Wai Iwi Stream and a report is to be prepared on the waterway.
