MEETING OF BAYS MAIN FIXTURE TOMORROW

The main sporting attraction at Whakatane tomorrow will be the representative Rugby fixture between Bay of Plenty and Poverty Bay at 2.30 p.m. Following the defeat of East Coast at Opotiki last Saturday by the Bay and the narrow win over the same team by Poverty Bay at Gisborne on Monday there will be some interest in the results of the game tomorrow. From both of last week’s games and tomorrow’s match selectors will be choosing the combined team to play the British Isles at Gisborne on June 21. There will be two curtain raisers to the main game. The first will be a third grade trial match starting at noon and a junior representative fixture between Whakatane and Opotiki. Originally a third grade game between Whakatane and Opotiki was planned but because of a fixture at Tauranga Opotiki were unable to accept the Whakatane game. TWO CHANGES IN BAY OF PLENTY TEAM Two changes have been made in the Bay of Plenty team to play' Poverty Bay at Whakatane tomorrow In the backs B. McGougan, Taneatua, replaces R. Gardiner on the wing while T. Pryor, Rangitaiki, will take the place of Anderson as hooker. In this last change the selectors have apparently been guided by the hooking of Pryor when he outraked Anderson at Te Teko on Monday. Gardiner is now a reserve.

Three players from Whakatane have made the team, four from Rangitaiki and one from Galatea. Mr O. Slow, Tauranga, will be referee. The team:—

Full back, E. Welch (Whakatane)• three-quarters) F. Martin (Capt), T. Kapua (Rotorua), B. McGougan (Whakatane); five eighths, A. Douglas (Rotorua), K. Sullivan (Rangitaiki); half back, L.
