TRIP CANCELLED
Sir, —May I through your paper ask what is wrong with the riders in the Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club. A fortnight ago the club was to hold a time trial over a distance of 300 miles. On the night before the trip a meeting was called, only seven riders being present. The club decided to postpone it for another week-end in the future ((I believe). The part that isn’t clear to me is that five of the seven riders are farm hands at Edgecumbe and Awakeri. If these five farm hands could make arrangements to leave the cows for four milkings why could not others? The riders in town should have backed the club up and gone on the trip not only for their sakes but to give the club a willing name. But no. Some of the boys play football an couldn’t get away. Others had girl friends (apparently) an couldn’t leave them.
Two riders in Edgecumbe had a rental car booked for their holidays and couldn’t cancel it. Nevertheless three riders did go on a trip and did over 400 miles. They didn’t take the same route as the club was going to. They went to Rotorua via Lake Rotoma and then on to Matamata, where they stopped the night. On Sunday they left Matamata for Te Aroha and then Paeroa. Then came Waihi and Waihi Beach and spent the night at Katikati. Then back home on Monday.
A pleasant week-end spent by three keen motor cyclists. So let’s hope that all the riders in the club will shake themselves and be in next time for a pleasant ride. Yours etc., ONE OF THREE. Awakeri, June 4.
