Judge Foots Tea Bill
Mr Justice Tyndall in the Arbitration Court, Wellington, said that when the court went to a tea shop in Opotiki on Monday, May 8, it was charged 2/3 each for afternoon tea. This was the day on which the Government’s subsidy withdrawals took effect. He thought Mr Wood, the Government Statistician, would be interested to know that. Mr F. C. Allerby (workers’ representative on the court): Yes, 2/3 each for tea, sandwiches and toast!
His Honour, to Mr Allerby: You haven’t got so much to complain about as I have —I paid for it.
