Large Hall Packed For St. John Indoor Bowling Tournament
An indoor bowling tournament organised by members of the St John Ambulance Brigade in their hall at Whakatane on Saturday night proved an outstanding success. The only criticism to be made was the lack of room for both players and spectators as the large hall, full-to overflowing, bore testimony to the popularity of this winter sport. The games were played in two sections, Taneatua Oddfellows No. 2 winning the first and Whakatane Druids No. 2 the second.
After a game of very high standard bowls, Taneatua Oddfellows (Mrs Reeve, Mrs Frost, D. Attwood, E. Frost) defeated Whakatane Druids (L. Henderson, Mrs Hancock, Mrs Barrowman, Mrs Grey) 7-3 in the final.
The number of wins for all teams were:—
A Section: Taneatua Oddfellows No. 2 4 wins, Edgecumbe Druids 4, Board Mills St John No. 1 4, Edgecumbe St John 3, Board Mills Social Club No. 22, Whakatane Druids No. 3 2, Whakatane Druids No. 1 1, Whakatane Nursing Division 1.
