Winter Show 1950 JUNE 21st, 22nd, 23rd 24th. The Show Committee appreciates the membership fees (10/6) already paid, but Show dates are only four weeks off and the staff work is already very heavy. Early payment will help to reduce the rush for what promises to be one of the largest country Winter Shows in the Dominion. Seven thousand feet of extra marquee space now awaits transport from Auckland. In Auckland there is a Society called “The Old Folks Fellowship,” whose motto is, Let us grow old together.” It is officered by a band of self-sacrificing workers headed by Mrs E. R. Halford, who try to make the final years of pioneer men and women a little happier and a little less lonely, as their tired feet tread the road to the last river that we all must cross. The Society is sending 25 entries to our Show, the entire work of the Old Folk. One old lady over 70 who says she thinks she is the only wax modeller of head, hands and feet in New Zealand is sending four Wax Dolls. An old gentleman 96 years of age who helped to win this land from mountain, bush and swamp is sending non-split pegs made from New Zealand teatree. Another old lady who is deaf and dumb and cannot walk, sends fancy belts and hair bands to brighten the attire of young girls the maker will never see. We recommend this exhibit to visitors as an example of the old pioneer spirit that was not fed by Governments or charity. The Executive is endeavouring to obtain an exhibit of wool from the sheep’s back onwards. The Executive has not asked for donations this year but wants a membership of 1,000 at 10/6. Send in for a membership ticket for a good Show. Richard Cobbe, Secretary. Box 213, Phones 398 d, 146 a new and not listed.
