HOW TO BUY GOOD GRASS SEED
Questions & Answers
(By E. R. Marryatt, Field Instructor, Whakatane) Question: Does all Government Certified seed have high purity and germination? Answer: There are minimum purity standards for all Government Certified seed. Although these standards are as high as is practicable they do not exclude small quantities of other species. The buyer should examine the P. & G. (Prity and Germination) Certificate to find out what these impurities are before he buys the seed. Very low germinating seed will not be Certified but high fermina. - ing seed which has been Certified will deteriorate in germinatijpn capacity with the passing of time and it is therefore the buyer’s business to find out what the germination capacity is before he buys. The germination capacity of Certified seed can fall just as low as the germination capacity of uncertified seed. Certification merely protects the buyer against poor types. Certification simply guarantees a good strain.
