Australia Rejects Helicopter Mails

New Zealand hopes for a helicopter mail service have been slightly dashed by a report from the Australian Post Office saying that they have proved that the machines are unsuitable for the movement of mails between suburban and general post offices. Officials there said that they could not be profitably used at-pre-sent. They had considered using helicopters instead of mail trucks for moving mails between Mascot aerodrome and the Sydney G.P.O. but the roof of the G.P.O. building was unsuitable for landings. It was admitted that later developments might eventually permit their use. In Britain and America the use of helicopters for this work was still in the experimental stages. Tests. had shown that their use was justified only between cities close to one another and where large 'loads had to be carried.
