200 Cups To One Pound Of Tea?
Tea is now charged for separately in some Bay of Plenty restaurants—including refills to those with a thirst.
The policy of charging for cups of tea, apart from the ordinary charge made for luncheon or dinner, as adopted in some restaurants since the removal of the subsidy on tea and the subsequent increase in price of Is 9d a pound, has caused many Bay of Plenty residents to argue how many cups and how many pots go to the pound. The answer has already been given by the deputy Commissioner of the Tea Bureau in New Zealand (Mr Kenneth Read). It is that one pound of tea could make 150 to 200 cups. And, said Mr Read, tea at a half penny a cup would still remain the cheapest drink in the world—except water.
