LARGE NUMBER PASS LIFE SAVING EXAM.

Great credit is due Mr A. G. Stenhouse, Whakatane, lecturer and instructor of the Royal Life Saving Society, in the number of passes secured by a large number of contestants from Whakatane recently, covering the St John Ambulance Brigade, the Legion of Frontiersmen and the Fire Brigade. The examination entailed a visit from members of the Auckland Branch of the Society, comprising Messrs Branch, Williams, Cameron and Benice, who carried out the requisite tests in the St John Ambulance Hall. The fact that there was a 100 per cent pass and that} no candidate notched less than 75 per cent reflects the greatest credit on the men and women for their keenness and application over the past six weeks when their training took place. The work consisted mainly on resuscitation of the apparently drowned and as a result the town and district now has another 38 persons who have qualified in this respect supplying a double safeguard at beaches and rivers.

The following secured their cerificates:—

Whakatane St John and Edgecumbe Brigades: E. J. Ramson, R. Ellis, A. W. Mclntosh, E. Manning T. Dockray, D. Paterson, E. G. Ramson, D. Wilkinson, W. Abbott, F. Mollison, W. Searle, E. Dockray, R. Ferry, B. Drub#, J. Kilgour, F. Storer, M. Bridge, J. Sim, D. Patterson, J. Marks, W. Massey. Whakatane Nursing Division: Mrs G. Hannah, M. Stenhouse, C. Stewart, R. Dockray, I. Vitali, J. Patterson, M. Larsen, L. Fennell, M. Catanach, Miss E. Fife, D. Tyssen. Whakatane Fire Brigade: J. Miles. Legion of Frontiersmen: C. Bathe B. Mole, F. Judd, W. Tyssen, E. Hunt.
