Many Men Play Golf Registered men members of New Zealand golf clubs up to the beginning of April this year totalled 17,557. There were 201 clubs in district associations with 14,689 men members and 89 clubs not in district associations with 2868 members.
Rugby Selectors Three selectors have been appointed for each grade senior and junior, by the Rangitaiki Rugby. SubUnion to select the representative teams this year. The senior selectors are Messrs F. Sykes (chairman), L. Anderson and N. Hiil and the junior Messrs F. A. Burt. P. Cole and O. Lord.
Card Evening Mrs L. Henderson and Mrs Chisholm cut for the ladies aggregate prize this week at the Whakatane Druids card evening, with Mrs Henderson being the winner. The men’s aggregate went to Mr A. Cruse. Mrs Wedderell and Mr Newman won the eveniing’s trophies and Mrs Newman and Mr Hanwright the booby prizes.
Table Tennis Club
Last night members of the new Whakatane Table Tennis Club met in the Winter Show Buildings to paint tables they bought from Te Puke, in preparation for play next Wednesday. This Club already has an enthusiastic following and should soon be firmly established as one of Whakatane’s regular winter sports bodies.
Swimming Handicaps The Bay of Plenty Swimming Centre’s handicapper, Mr B. Nisbett, Rotorua, will in future use the best times recorded by swimmers during, the previous season, and better times if potified by club secretaries, for handicapping at the commencement -of the new season following the adoption of a remit to the Bay of Plenty Centrp of the N.Z. Amateur Swimming Associations, held in Tauranga.
Sisters Enter Monastery Seven sisters in the religious order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel had their last glimpse of the outside world last week when their enclosing ceremony was held at Wadestown, Wellington. They walked in procession from the parish church to their monastery. There Archibshop McKeefry performed the enclosing ceremony at the door and gave each his blessing. "When all the sisters had entered their monastery, the door was locked. The business of the monastery * is done by another sister known as cn externe, who - lives separate from the sisters enclosed.
