Illegal Tactics Mar Rugby Match At Whakatane
For the second week of the rugby matches played at Whakatane on Saturday were very low in scoring but the game at Taneatua between Wairaka and the home team resulted in a 20 point win for the visitors. The meeting between Paroa and United was a hard fought struggle marred continuously by fighting and illegal tactics. In direct contrast Ruatoki and Poroporo played clean, hard football and in a spirit that moved the referee, Mr B. Norman, to congratulate the officials of both clubs on the fine showing of their teams. In the junior grade School, using the Springbok scrum formation, had a good win while the heavy United team had a hard tussle against the lighter but more dogged Paroa fifteen. Teams in the third grade provided some good curtain raisers.
