Fat Cattle Sell Well But Dairy Cows Slow At Stock Sale
A small yarding of pigs came forward and prices remained very firm at late rates at the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s Te Puke stock sale.
Fat cattle sold well but there was an easing in values for boner cattle, due to the acute shortage of railway trucks. A large yarding of dairy cattle came forward but the market for dairies at the moment is rather dull. The yarding of store wethers met with a strong demand but breeding ewes were slow of sale. Prices realised:—
Pigs: Medium choppers, £4 10s to £6* prime heavy baconers, £6 18s to £7 2s; medium to heavy baconers, £6 10s to £6 11s; light baconers, £4 10s to £6 ss; heavy porkers, £4 10s to £5; light porkers, £3 10s to £4 ss; slips, 35s to 455; weaners, 20s to 30s. Cattle: Fat Jersey cows, £9 to £lO 10s; light fat cows, £7 to £8; boner cow's, £6 to £7; light boner cows, £4 10s to £5 10s; springing Jersey heifers, £9 to £l2; dairy cows, close to profit, £9 10s to £ls.
Sheep: Two tooth wethers, forward condition, £2 6s 9d to £2 8s; store wethers. £2 2s 6d to £2 ss.
