Thornton Wins Y.F.C. Debate Competition For Eastern Area

The final debate of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young Farmers’ Club District Committee’s debate was won by Thornton at Whakatane on Friday night. This team took the negative and won from Wainui by 328 points to 300.

The subject debated on was “that scientific research benefited agriculture less than it has benefited any industry.” The adjudicator was Mr A. J. Kerse, secretary of the Auckland Young Farmers’ Club Council. A cup donated by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., was presented by Mr L. Brown.

Thornton are now to contest the Bay of Plenty district competition with the winning team of the western area. The teams:—

Thornton: W. H. Fisher (leader), P. Gow, M. Connelly. Wainui: T. M. Burke (leader), C. Burke, D. R. Shadbolt.
