Superphosphate Prices To Be Kept At Proper Levels
Wellington, this day,
“I unhesitatingly affirm that superphosphate prices will be maintained at such levels as examination of the cost structure, and of the financial results accruing to the manufacturers from prices based on it, disclose to be fair and accurate,” said the Minister of Agriculture, Mr K. J. Holyoake, replying to a letter from the Industrial Officer of Federated Farmers, Mr J. C. Adams, which sought this information. The possibility of reducing the price of superphosphate was ; one of the matters concerning the supply of fertilisers for primary production, which had been receiving his attention in recent months, said the Minister.
Discussing the reserve funds of fertiliser companies, Mr Holyoake said that it would be most unfortunate for New Zealand’s superphosphate industry if the economic minimum of superphosphate price precluded gradual accretions to reserves in years of satisfactory prices for the Dominion’s primary produce.
