Bay Of Plenty And Poverty Bay To Play British Rugby Team

Notification that the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union had been combined with Poverty Bay to play the touring British team at Gisborne was given to the annual meeting of the union, held at Matata, by the President, Mr W. Henderson, Whakatane, when presenting his report.

Mr Henderson told the meeting that the executive had decided some months ago to ask the New Zealand Rugby Union to alter Ihe venue of the match between the British team and the New Zealand Maoris from Hamilton to Rotorua. The question had been considered by the council and the Bay union had been astounded to learn that the venue had been changed to Wellington. A formal protest had been forwarded and an explanation v/as expected.

Whakatane Men In Office Of Bay Of Plenty Rugby Union

Mr W. Henderson, Whakatane, was re-elected president at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty •Rugby Union held at Matata. Another Whakatane member, Mr P. Bryers, was re-elected secretary. Officers elected:—

Patron, Mr L. Clarke (Rotorua); vice-patron, Mr W. Burrett (Opotiki); president, Mr W. Henderson (Whakatane); vice-presidents (the presidents of the eight sub-unions) Messrs Butler (Apanui), Burrett Opotiki), S. McLeod (Whakatane), Magee (Rangitaiki), Stunnell (Galatea), Wright (Rotorua), Whiteside (Te Puke), and Irvine (Tauranga); secretary-treasurer, Mr P. Bryers (Whakatane) Executive committee (one from each sub-union, and the president, secretary, chairman of the Primary Schools Union, the Maori representative, and the referees’ representative). Messrs Abbott (Apanui), Marjoribanks (Opotiki), Stunnell (Galatea), Andrews (Rotorua), S. McLeod (Whakatane), Thompson (Rangitaiki), Spratt (Te .iPuke), [rvine (Tauranga), (the primary Schools representative is yet to be chosen). Anderson, Debreceney and the president and secretary. Delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union, Messrs Henderson. Bryers, and Clarke.

Mr T. Anderson Bay Selector

Three senior selectors of which Mr T. Anderson, Rangitaiki, is to be chairman of the senior selection .committee were chosen at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union. The other two selectors elected were, Messrs K. Dunlop, Tauranga, and L. Clarke, Rotorua.

Mr C. Wells. Whakatane, along with Messrs H. Solomon, Rotorua, and J. Read, Opotiki, were-' elected junior selectors.
