Seventeen Rules That May Help For Happy Marriages
Seventeen rules for happy marriages are printed on the card which a Judge keen to stem the rising tide of divorce, hands to all who come before him for any domestic troubles. They are:— Cultivation of absolute unselfishness on both sides.
Never both be angry at once. Never shout at each othei* unless the house is on fire. Let self-denial be the daily practice of each.
Never find fault, unless the fault is certain, and always speak lovingly. Never taunt with a past mistake. Neglect the whole world rather than each other. Never allow a request to be repeated. Never make a remark at the expense of each other. , Never pass a day without loving Words to think of during absence. Never let the sun go down upon anger or grievance.
Never meet without a welcome. Never forget the happy hours of early love. Never sigh over what might have been. Make the best of what is. Never forget that marriage is ordained of God, and that His blessing alone can make it successful.
Never be contented until you know you are both walking in the same narrow way.
And, finally (if quarrels do occur), getover the difficulty of deciding who is to make the first move towards reconcilation by taking turns at it.
For tarnished silver, take some hot water and add a teaspoonful of baking soda and a teaspoonful of salt for every pint. Stand the silver in it until all the tarnish has disappeared. Then wash in warm, soapy water, rinse- and dry with a soft cloth.
