SENIOR GAMES START SUNDAY Twelve clubs have now affiliated with the Central Bay of Plenty Hockey Association for the 1950 season and 28 teams have entered the competitions commencing on Sunday. Six women’s and seven men’s teams have been allocated to the A grade while in the B grade eight women’s and seven men's teams are competing. Two new clubs, Apanui and Onepu, have been established, while the Whakatane, Club is again affiliated.
Junior teams have been nominated and competitions for them commence on April 29. The following is the draw for the first round:—A Grade: Women: Te Teko v Matata at Te Teko 1 p.m. (Chaytor and Edwards); Rovers v Awakeri at Edgecumbe 1 p.m. (Civil and I. Jensen); Poroporo v Apanui at Whakatane 1 p.m. (HencLerson and E Chamberlain). Men: Riverslea v Matata at Edgecumbe 1 p.m. (Crook and Marx); Rovers v Awakeri at Edgecumbe 2.15 p.m. (Crook and Marx); Poroporo v Whakatane at Whakatane 2.15 p.m. (Henderson and Chamberlain). Apanui a bye.
B Grade: Women: Te Teko v Huimai .at Te Teko 1 p.m. (G. Schooner and G. Moses); Poroporo v Taneatua at Poroporo 1 p.m. (Mrs Koropapara and R. Jensen:) Otakiri Stars v Otakiri at Otakiri 1 p.m. (R. Barton and Revell); Paro'a v Onepu at Paroa 1 p.m. (Mrs Grey and Mrs Grant). Men: Te Teko v Huimai at Te Teko 2.15 p.m. (Chaytor and T. Edwards); Poroporo v Taneatua at Poroporo 2.15 p.m. (Mrs Horopapara and D. O’Brien); Otakiri Stars v Otakiri at Otakiri 2.15 p.m. (Barton and Mackrell). Rangers a bye. FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNEY AT EDGECUMBE The Central Bay of Plenty Hockey Association will be holding a five-a-side hockey tournament at v Edgecumbe tomorrow in co-opera-tion with the St John Ambulance sports. Over 24 teams have been nominated and all. hockey enthusiasts are keenly interested as a five-a-side tournament has not been held in this district before.
Five-a-side ' hockey calls for speed, ball control, positional play and anticipation to a far higher degree than seven-a-side and as all players are taking part in the tournament for the first time supporters can be assured of many thrilling games. Games commence at
9,45 a.m. and will be of ten minutes duration—five minutes each way.
STRONG WHAKATANE TEAMS SELECTED
Strong men's teams have been selected to represent Whakatane at the five-a-side hockey tournament to be played at Edgecumbe tomorrow. A bus will leave the Domain gates at 8.45 a.m. The teams:— Thompson (2), D. Tai, . Baker, Gillard (2), A. Hollis, S. Hitchens, T. Windley, J. Irimoko, P. Baker, B. Flay, K. Smith, Agnew (2), N.
