COUNTRY LIBRARY SERVICE PLANNED FOR WHAKATANE
The Whakatane Borough Council has decided to start the country library service at Whakatane and the date of starting the new service is to be arranged with a member of the service when she visits the district early next month. The scheme has been under consideration of the council for some months. It is hoped to start the service some time this year.
This new library service will give people at Whakatane a greater variety in reading matter. Books will be continually changed every month and any rare publications may be obtained by applying through the service. Most of the books available will consist of non-fiction and the better class of fiction. The control of the library* will pass from the present committee to the council who will maintain a paid staff or librarian.
