Water Supply

Five new water* services have been connected to the water supply. Lagoon Drainage

Three chains of three feet concrete piping have been laid to form an outlet to the Whakatane River from Patterson’s lagoon. Lines Extended

Extension of the existing secondary power lines in Bracken Street have now been completed.

River Access Hinemoa Street has been extended to give easier access to the river. This area has been cleared of gorse and roughly levelled*

Blow-Outs Repaired Seven water main * blow-outs were repaired last month while all leaking valve glands were repacked.

Driving Licences

Nine driving licences-were issued by the traffic inspector, Mr M. C. Bridge, at Whakatane last month. There were 11 applications but two failed in the tests.

Flood Stop Banks A continuous flood stopbank fiom Pyne Street to Eivers Road has been completed. Open drains in the Eivers and McGarvey Roads area have been cleaned.

New Installations

Eight hot water cylinders were installed in the borough last month. In addition there were 12 lighting and heating installations, eight ranges and a motor and -a builder’s saw.

New Power Poles A start has been made to replace some 32 defective power line poles between the Edgecumbe power substation and Whakatane. These are to be changed over during the Sunday afternoon power icuts. Kopeopeo Taxi' Stand

A two-cab taxi stand at Kopeopeo on the left hand side of James Street adjacent to the King Street Hall has been granted a Whakatane company provided the stand in the Strand is limited to a four-cab stand. Street Names Wanted Suggestions for names for three unnamed Whakatane streets are wanted by the Whakatane Borough Council. One street, the old county road running parallel to Bridge Street and recently added to the borough, is in,need of a name. The other two are on Hillcrest.
