Immediate Rat Poisoning Of Tip To Be Carried Out

Following on a recommendation from the sanitary inspector, Mr A. R. Knights, immediate rat poisoning is to be started on the town refuse tip, it was decided by the monthly meeting of the ■ Whakatane Borough Council. In his report Mr Knights urged that steps should be taken to eliminate rats as these could now be seen in large numbers.

Agreeing with the inspector Cr H. G. Warren said that rapid poisoning should be commenced as soon as possible.

There was some discussion over the type of poison to be used. So far just about everything had been used but nothing entirely suitable had been found yet the town clerk, Mr L. D. Lovelock, remarked. The last poison used the rats seemed to have played with it. Cr Warren thought that the rats were not hungry enough to taxe the poison. The trouble was the amount of foodtsuffs dumped on the tip Cr C. S Armstrong declared. He considered that the main thing was not so much to kill the rats as to keep them away. The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, pointed out that the beasts were found elsewhere in the town and not only on the tip.

Firms operating motor buses in the United States have 229,000 employees.
