Whakatane Passes Year’s National Savings Quota

Along with all other towns in New Zealand Whakatane has reached the annual national savings quota for the financial year ending March 31. The actual figure collected was more than £6OOO over the quota, according to the postmaster, Mr G. A. Wilkes/ Whakatane’s quota for the year was £14,300 and the amount realised was £20,484. Well over the required target. This year the quota for Whakatane has been increased because of the larger population in the district.

Throughout New Zealand all towns reached targets in the past financial year. The total objective for the whole country was £5,126,212, which was more than doubled. The quota scheme for each district is based on a saving of 4d per household.
