Taneatua Rod And Gun Club Discusses Status Of Rangers
The district ranger from Rotorua, Mr S. A. McNamara, and the Whakatane ranger, Mr K. Francis, were met recently by the Taneatua Ranger Rod and Gun Club. Mr McNamara was asked to explain the power of honorary rangers over fish and game.
After the matter was discussed, Mr McNamara said that he would forward the necessary papers to the Club as soon as possible to clear any matters that did not seem right.
The' president, Mr W. H. Semmens, said that many of the honorary rangers informed him that there was very little poaching going on in the back country this year compared with other years and he puts this down to the good work the rangers were doing with the help of the Government ranger. Mr Semmens said reports had come in stating that there had been more young pheasants seen this year than for some years. The fishing in the Waimana and Whakatane rivers had been moderately good this season. The largest caught so far was just over 71bs. The club had given a trophy for the largest trout caught for the season, Mr Semmens added.
