Apart from the Whakatane Bowling Club’s annual tournament and a representative cricket match on Monday there are no other big sporting fixtures at Whakatane over Easter. The bowling tournament is to commence on Fridov and will continue on, Saturday and Monday with the finals probably Doing played off Tuesday morning. Teams have been drawn from a large, area and play is to>,take place oh both the Whakatane and Ohope greens. On Monday the first and - probably the only representative cricket match to be played at Whakatane this year will provide followers of the sport with some good cricket when Whakatane meets Thames Valley Colts. Of the other sports tennis has no organised games although the Whakatane Club’s courts will be open to visitors. Rowing is taking a rest before the official closing day the following week-end. The Whakatane Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will still carry on its season and is sending a strong team to compete at the Tauranga sports on Monday. Last week the club had considerable success at Opotiki. In other parts of the Bay of Plenty several fixtures are planned, probably the main one being the Rotorua Racing Club’s annual meeting on Saturday.
