Minister Of Maori Affairs On Visit To Whakatane
Paying his first visit to Whakatane since his appointment to Cabinet rank as Minister of Lands, Forests and Maori Affairs, Mr E B. Corbett arrived in the district yesterday accompanied by the Minister of Mines, Labour and Employment and Immigration, Mr Suiovan. The under-secretary of Maori Affairs, Mr T. T. Ropiha, the Secretary of Maori Affairs, Mr J. Grace, and the Director of Lands and Survery Mr D. Greig, were also in the party. Yesterday the party travelled from Rotorua to Ruatoki and later in/ the afternoon Mr Ropiha received a deputation from the Wairaka Tribal Committee and discussed several matters relating to the the Maori people in the Pa area. Further deputations will be received this morning. The party will leave this afternoon for Tauranga. Mr Sullivan however, will remain in Whakatane today and will fly from Rotorua to Wellington tomorrow morning.
