COUNTY ROAD SEALING
Sir, —With reference to the remarks of Mr Burnett, County chairman, as reported in the Beacon regarding the state of main highways within the County; I wonder if Mr Burnett has ever inspected the County roads that do not come under main highways! I note in particular his remark about Whakatane being the “Cinderella” of the highways. Well Taneatua is the “Cinderella” of the Whakatane County in regard to road improvements, and for dust nuisance he does not have to go to Edgecumbe or Te Teko, let him shift residence to Station Road (or Morrison Street Taneatua, that is the correct name I think) a County employee would be wanted to remove the road from house and furniture and on Mondays would be fully occupied rinsing clothes, which five minutes after they are pegged out ?ire showered with dust from service trucks.
Is there any tar sealing going on under County supervision at all?
The rate collection has just been completed so perhaps we can expect some improvement in the near future. But please let Mr Burnett seal and improve some of the County roads before being so critical of main highways. Yours etc.,
E. D. BENNETT. Taneatua, March 27.
