Freakish Rock Melon Is Grown On East Coast
Something in the nature o.f a freak rock melon has been grown by Mrs B. Tedder of Wairoa. < Usually round or occasionally inclined to oval in shape, rock melons do not, as a rule, grow to large dimensions. This one, however, ignored the rules and regulations as regards the species and in shape resembled a very large banana passionfruit more than a melon.
With a girth of 14 inches, the melon was 21 inches long and 41inches through the thickest part. It weighed six pounds 12 ounces and the outer covering was slightly fluted. . • According to Mrs Tedder, the melon was the only one on the plant which deviated from the normal specimens.
